Abstract


The Elok Green Lestari Farmer Group in RW 08 Semolowaru, Surabaya, faces challenges related to its high dependence on commercial livestock feed and the underutilization of organic waste as an alternative feed source. This community service program aimed to implement Appropriate Technology (AT) in the form of an organic waste-based feed chopper machine to improve feed-processing efficiency and support the group’s self-reliance. The program was carried out through socialization activities using pre-test and post-test instruments, participatory training, technology demonstrations, field mentoring, and program evaluation. Participants’ average understanding score increased from 48.4 to 80.5, with an N-Gain value of 0.63, indicating a moderate level of improvement. The feed chopper reduced processing time by up to 80% compared to manual methods and lowered feed costs by 18% through the use of organic waste as a substitute feed ingredient. The program facilitated technology transfer, enhanced members’ operational skills, and strengthened circular economy practices within an urban farming system, contributing to the sustainability of livestock management and urban environmental development.

 

ABSTRAK

Kelompok Tani Elok Green Lestari di RW 08 Semolowaru, Surabaya, menghadapi tingginya ketergantungan pada pakan komersial dan belum optimalnya pemanfaatan limbah organik sebagai pakan alternatif. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan mengimplementasikan Teknologi Tepat Guna (TTG) berupa mesin pencacah pakan berbasis limbah organik untuk meningkatkan efisiensi pengolahan pakan dan mendukung kemandirian kelompok tani. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi sosialisasi dengan pre-test dan post-test, pelatihan partisipatif, demonstrasi teknologi, pendampingan lapangan, serta evaluasi program. Rata-rata skor pemahaman peserta meningkat dari 48,4 menjadi 80,5 dengan nilai N-Gain 0,63 (kategori sedang). Penggunaan mesin pencacah mampu mempercepat proses pengolahan pakan hingga 80% dibandingkan metode manual serta menurunkan biaya pakan sebesar 18% melalui pemanfaatan limbah organik sebagai bahan substitusi. Program ini menghasilkan transfer teknologi kepada kelompok tani, peningkatan keterampilan anggota dalam pengoperasian mesin, serta penguatan praktik ekonomi sirkular berbasis urban farming yang mendukung keberlanjutan pengelolaan peternakan dan lingkungan perkotaan.
