Analisis Kebutuhan Bahasa Inggris dalam Praktik Klinis Mahasiswa Keperawatan: Studi Deskriptif Kualitatif di Rumah Sakit
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the English language needs of nursing students during their clinical practice in hospitals. English proficiency, particularly in medical and professional contexts, plays a crucial role for nursing students in facing global communication challenges and understanding international nursing literature. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using questionnaires, interviews, and observations involving final-year nursing students undergoing clinical practice. The findings indicate that the most essential language skills in clinical settings are speaking and listening, especially for communicating with foreign patients, explaining nursing procedures, and understanding doctors' instructions. Additionally, the study reveals that the English materials taught in class are not fully aligned with real-world needs, particularly in medical terminology and clinical communication. The study recommends that the ESP curriculum for nursing programs be revised to better reflect the authentic language demands faced by students in clinical environments, thus making English learning more contextual and applicable.
Keywords
